Peru, Boliva and Brazil - 2002 - Heading Pisco

Sunday 30 June 2002

We were early up this day having breakfast in downtown Lima. Not many tourists walks around here and we certainly felt alien in the local bakery shop. Some of the streets didn't look safe and when we passed a hotel the guard pointed at our camera with the words "careful".

The target for this day was Plaza de Major where the president palace and the cathedral is located.

The square was beautiful and the cathedral impressive, but we felt it was time to see something refreshing and different that this polluted and poor city of Lima.

We got on a very nice "greyhound" bus to Pisco. On the four hour trip we were able to watch two movies, which turned out to be very nice, as the view was quite uninspiring. Pisco is a small city a four hours drive from Lima. The weather was still cloudy and misty.

We had expected a beautiful view from the bus, but driving at a desert road in misty weather was quite boring.

At first sight, Pisco looked just as dirty and poor as Lima. We were a bit disappointed, as we have read in our "Lonely Planet" guide that this was a nice city.

Later on when we walked in the center of the city, we changed our minds. It was quite nice with a small pedestrian street and town square.

We ate dinner and went to bed early in the nice, but expensive hostel.

We had to be ready 7am next morning for our trip to the sea lions.
